Hosted by POST + Color Wheel Collective with Fungi Freights
** In addition to this Fundraising Workshop, Color Wheel Collective will also be at POST from 12pm to 5pm for an open Trunk Show! Come by and help raise some funds and awareness for Great Lakes Fibershed's Community Garden Project as well as J.E Clark Preparatory Academy Outreach Program, a program that offers young students the chance to connect with art and nature through sustainable practices. **
Saturday, May 25th, 2019, from 3pm to 6pm
Color Wheel and Fungi Freights Studio are joining forces to impart their knowledge about the fascinating world of dyeing with mushrooms.
Explore the basics of mushroom anatomy, identification and the chemistry behind fungal dyes while also learning how and where to find them in your own neighbourhood. Complete the day with a hands-on dyeing experience and go home with a gorgeous mushroom dyed skein of Michigan grown and milled wool yarn!
75% of all proceeds from this event will support fundraisers for Color Wheel's School Outreach Program and Great Lakes Fibershed's Community Garden Project.
Snacks and Mushroom Tea will be provided!
Aprons will also be provided, but please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little bit dirty.
About the instructors:
Color Wheel is an organization that connects community and environment by exploring the history, science, and art of natural color making. Color Wheel is based in South-East Michigan. They grow indigo and other dye plants right here at POST - check out our dye garden on the NW corner of the building!
Tess Burzynski is the founder, head educator and cultivator at Fungi Freights Urban Lab and Environmental Studio. Throughout her studies she has learned the impact mycelium (the vegetative part of fungus) plays in the environment and how beneficial, tenacious and magical it truly is. Through Fungi Freights, her goal is to reunite mushrooms and (wo)mankind by educating the community of Detroit and its surrounding neighbors about the benefits mushrooms have on health, food scarcity and the environment.
