Handmade Felted Scarves with visiting artists from Columbia

Hosted by POST + Laura Castro (of LA COSMO) and Lucia Londoño (of Ata Felting Design)

Sunday, December 15th from 1pm to 5pm

Use a variety of felting techniques to create a gorgeous one-of-a-kind scarf!

In this 4 hour workshop, visiting Colombian artists, Laura and Lucia will teach you all about the ancient art of felting! Step by step, you will be guided through the techniques and materials needed for wet, Nuno, and wrinkled felting. Add your own special flair with basic embroidery stitches as well. Each scarf will be made of virgin Colombian wool brought by Lucia and Laura from Bogotá.

Take advantage of this rare workshop opportunity! These artists plan on staying in Detroit for only a short while before continuing their cross-country tour.

About the artists:

Laura Castro is a fashion designer who founded LA COSMO in 2018 where she is currently working with 18 Colombian brands from various regions. Each brand is unique but with a shared focus on responsible production processes. LA COSMO is a multi-use space where screenings, workshops, and conversations take place revolving around the philosophy of sustainability and slow fashion. This is how she came to meet Lucia Londoño, a wet and dry felt instructor, who with her brand Ata Felting, does a very important job in Colombian communities.

Maria Lucia Londoño studied Design, specializing in Textile Design in Bogotá, Colombia and received her Master’s Degree in Textile Design Innovation in Nottingham, UK. Her brand, Ata Felting Design in which she explores possibilities of artisanal felting, Colombian wool and natural dyes. Her main goal is to introduce and attract a wider audience to the art of felting. She has programmed a series of felting workshops to do just that. She also collaborates with important Colombian designers such as Olga Piedrahita and Nicolares Rivero, among others.
