We are so very excited to welcome Kelly into the POST studio. She is a fellow artist/maker running Workshop - a very similar style business with locations in San Francisco and Pittsburgh. Kelly will be teaching 3 workshops, in 3 days as well as doing a featured trunk show in the shop.
Thursday, February 20th from 6pm to 9pm
Learn the traditional craft of punch needle, where loops of yarn are created by punching the needle down through the fabric in a repetitive motion. Embroidery meets rug hooking to create one of a kind art. Seems easy & old school, huh? Well, it is! We like to think of it as painting with yarn. This fiber craft dates back to the 1880’s but is experiencing a resurgence in popularity with modern motifs and applications.
In this class you will learn how to complete a project from start to finish, including material selection, supplies review, design transfer, punch needle technique and options for finishing your piece. In addition to a few templates of ours you can use- , you also can create your own design fairly easily. Punch needle is a fun and meditative craft that can be turned into wall art, cushions, pillows, rugs, purses… just about anything made with a textile! Ideal technique for illustrators, artists and fiber artists to step into a new medium. This truly is an easy to catch on craft that you can do anywhere.
We took all the hard work out of the equation and did all the sourcing.
In this class you will receive:
- A 12 x12 inch handmade wood frame with top of the line Monks Cloth already stretched and stapled on to the frame so it's ready to go!
- One Amy Oxford punch needle that is yours to keep after class (size 8)
- Yarns for use in class and a bit to take home if you don't finish in class
None! Additional frames will be available for purchase for $18 per frame. Yard bundles of additional Monks Cloth will be available for $25 a yard.
