Hosted by POST + Megan Williams, of Adventure Textiles
Saturday, April 18 from 11am to 5pm
Join Megan Williams, the maker behind Adventure Textiles, for a day of creating a dye study.
During this 6 hour hands-on workshop, we’ll be exploring the magic of achieving a natural green from flowers, fruits and roots. Come prepared to learn how to set up natural dye pots, dye with four yellow producing dyes and shift the color with indigo and iron to achieve bright greens and saddened olive greens. We’ll be working on a dye study together in order to achieve 12 colors on 3 types of natural materials for a total of 36 different samples. These samples will be used to later fill a dye binder complete with recipes to achieve similar colors at home. This workshop will cover safety/clean up procedures, how to prepare dye materials as well as where to purchase dye supplies.
Each student will leave with plenty of fiber samples to fill their binder and extra fabric samples for their own projects.
About the Instructor:
Megan Williams is a maker. She prefers maker because it encompasses all the things she is sewer, dyer, weaver, spinner, felter, crocheter, leather worker, builder, grower, teacher, and student. She is focused on making both beautiful objects and wonderful communities.
Megan has been teaching natural dye workshops all around Michigan for over 5 years and is excited to bring her knowledge of natural dyes to POST. She structures her workshops as an in depth study into the process and science behind dyeing with natural materials. She hopes every student will learn a lot and be confident in being able to replicate the results at home.
