Extinct Embroidery Workshop

Hosted by POST + Dayna Walton, of Solstice Handmade

Friday, May 8th from 6 to 9pm

All skill levels are invited to learn about the Ivory Billed Woodpecker while using 4 essential embroidery stitches to complete a sampler of this extinct bird.

Join Dayna, from Solstice Handmade, for an evening of stitching and socializing. We will cover 4 basic embroidery stitches to complete this design of an Ivory Billed Woodpecker. We will talk about the history of the animal and what led to its decline.

Participants will create a stitched work of art that can be used as a gift, wall hanging, or sewn into something else! This class is perfect for both beginners and pros. The class will be split into small groups with periodic demos by Dayna to allow for all to work at their own pace.

About the Instructor:

Dayna, the artist behind Solstice Handmade, currently lives in Grand Rapids, MI. She works out of Dinderbeck Studio where her practice is built on a love for exploring the natural world and a need to share stories and skills with others. Utilizing traditional printmaking techniques such as screen printing, block printing, etching, and lithography, Dayna creates printed artwork, textiles, and other goods with illustrations and patterns based on the natural world. Dayna travels Michigan and throughout the region to teach workshops that combine science and creativity,  bringing together people with a common love. When she's not in the studio, you can find her painting murals, working artist markets, and working elsewhere through residencies.
