Hosted by POST + Mutual Adoration
Thursday, June 4th from 6:30pm to 9pm
Learn basic woodworking skills while creating a functional and beautiful candle holder. This make + take workshop offers a general overview of wood crafting, while you create a unique project. These look great on a dining table or sitting atop a mantle!
During this hands-on workshop, students will learn wood shop safety, proper tool operations, and then be guided through the project. We will be using hand and power tools to cut, sand, drill, paint, stain, and finish locally sourced reclaimed wood to create tea light candle holders.
Everyone will create their choice of individual blocks or a single long plank, made to hold 5 candles. The candle holders may be painted or left in a more natural finish - you choose!
Aprons will be provided, but please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little bit dirty. Stain, paint, and finishing oils will stain your clothing! All students must wear closed toe shoes for this workshop.
About the instructors:
Clare and Wayne, co-founders of Mutual Adoration and POST, are native Detroiters (West side meets East side) and they love sharing their work and their city with the world. Mutual Adoration goods can be found in fine shops and contemporary craft galleries all over the country. Mutual Adoration is a combined effort to meld their individual passions and talents for design, craft, and history. In early 2017, they moved their design and production operations to POST and opened the retail shop later that year. Clare and Wayne have curated the studios, shop, and educational programming in an effort to promote contemporary craft and provide a space for learning, creating, and connecting.
Celena Bezak is Mutual Adoration's production manager. She has been with the company since 2015 and specializes in product design and woodworking. Celena's creative background also includes textiles, ceramics, and food/drink.
