Engineers, come learn to optimize your drinks! There are 3 critical cocktail ‘ingredients’ that don’t come in a bottle, and they are temperature, dilution, and aeration. These three non-ingredient-ingredients are the difference between a good drink or a bad drink, for the exact same recipe. In this class, through making and tasting several classic drinks, we will learn how to measure, predict, and optimize the engineering aspects of drinks to make every sip ideal.
Non-engineers are welcome, however this will be a decidedly nerdly approach to cocktailing. There will be many things to taste, and the class includes ~2.5 cocktails (spread among more smaller samples).
About the Instructor:
Dr. Peterson's background spans physics, engineering, perfumery, and bar ownership. His new book, Cocktail Theory - A Sensory Approach to Transcendent Drinks, is a detailed look at the theory and philosophy behind the Detroit cocktail bar he co-founded, Castalia, that operates as a perfumery by day, but by night transforms to serve scent-paired drinks.
