Hosted by POST + Melissa Dettloff, of Hooray Forever + Rachael Barlock, of Hazel + Dolly
Thursday May 14th from 6pm to 9pm
Take your notecards up a notch! Learn the basics of brush lettering and screen printing all in one class!
This 3 hour hands-on workshop will introduce you to not one, but two wonderfully different and complementary skills. During the first half, Rachael will teach various ways to use a professional brush pen. Learn how to achieve a unique lettering flair while developing a beautiful and personal style.
Next, Melissa will go through the steps in taking your one-off, original design and turning it into multiple notecards for your friends and family. There will be endless combinations of ink color palettes to choose from! Participants are encouraged to bring a phrase or idea they would like to design and print during this workshop.
Each participant will go home with 12 custom-made notecards and envelopes that you designed and printed yourself.
About the instructors:
Melissa Dettloff is a Detroit illustrator who has been screen printing since 2001. She prints posters, cards, fabric, zines, and more for her label Hooray Forever. Almost everything she makes has a dog on it.
Inspired by sarcasm + pen pals, fueled by La Croix + house plants, and outfitted in big hats + floral skirts, Rachael Barlock owns and operates Hazel + Dolly in Detroit, Michigan. Hazel + Dolly is all about honoring the nostalgia of hand-written correspondence. We take that craft, add some sass and modern design, and print it on antique letterpress equipment to give you a product worth sending.
