Hosted by POST + Monique Herzig (of Alchemy Slow Living)
Wednesday, December 11th from 6pm to 8pm
Take your gift wrapping up a notch with this incredibly sustainable and eco-friendly alternative!
Join Monique and explore a brief history of one of the world’s oldest plant-based dyes - henna! Most know it as a traditional colorant for hair or a way to add decorative and meaningful motifs to the skin. What some might not know, is henna can also be used to dye many natural fibers like cotton and silk. In this workshop we will tie-dye and embellish a square of silk then, to make it practical, practice the furoshiki craft of knot tying. Furoshiki is a method of thoughtfully wrapping and transporting gifts, lunches, bottles and more using a (deceptively!) simple piece of fabric. Originating in Japan, it has become extremely popular worldwide as a versatile and reusable solution to plastic or paper packaging.
Take home a beautifully hand-dyed square of silk and the ability to transform it into a reusable cloth wrap just in time for the Season of Giving!
