Hosted by POST + Michelle Gerdan
Wednesday, April 1st from 6pm to 8:30pm
Learn how to decorate a traditional Eastern European style Easter egg using the batik method!
Join Michelle as she goes step by step into the meticulous world of egg decorating. Each participant will use one egg, a selection of colored dyes, a kistka (a traditional Pisanki tool), and beeswax to create a gorgeous object to treasure all year round.
Everyone will go home with their very own Pisanka egg, egg stand and a printed outline of the meanings and significance behind each of the designs.
Aprons will be provided, but please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little bit dirty.
About the instructor:
Michelle is a native 'Hamtramckan', who now lives in Royal Oak. She has been immersed in Polish culture and art from birth. Her parents have owned the Polish Art Center in Hamtramck for 46 years, where bright colors and folk art come alive. In 2005 she graduated from Wayne State University on a volleyball scholarship, with a B.A. in Fashion Merchandising and Design. When she is not chasing her 4 and 6 year old boys, she is making jewelry, sewing, crocheting, creating artistic store displays, or baking. She has a love and appreciation for all forms of art, and loves to learn! Her mother shared the tradition of making pisanki with her when she was a child and loves to share this traditional folk art with others.
