ADVANCED KNITTING WORKSHOP: Intro to Cableknit

*Advanced class — Designed for students with a good grasp on basic knitting techniques, but suitable for those who have never done cable knitting before. Students should already be comfortable with casting on and off, knit and purl stitches and working both knits and purls in the same row.
In this workshop, you’ll get an introduction to cabling techniques by knitting a mug cozy. The pattern used for this class is the “Workaholic Coffee Coozie” by Dragon Hoard Designs. Julia will guide everyone through the basics of the skill, including right and left crossing and the use of a cable needle. The goal is to make the skill feel approachable.
Materials you’ll need

- One skein of DK-weight yarn
- One set each of size 2.5 and size 5 needles for preferred method of small circumference knitting, such as 9-inch circular needles, double-pointed needles or circular needles for the magic loop technique
- Cable needle
- Other basic notions including scissors, tapestry needles, and stitch markers
About the instructor:
Julia Cardi is a knitter and crocheter based in Detroit. Her love for knitting began as a solitary hobby during the COVID-19 pandemic (the scarf of dubious quality she made from a kit as a nine-year-old notwithstanding), but what hooked her is the community fiber arts naturally creates, and the respite it provides from her day job.
