This intensive workshop will have you elbows-deep in various media as you create bold and exciting new work. Mixed Media Abstract Collage is a fun and liberating art-making process that will teach how to create something new with the intention of ripping it up in order to give birth to a brand new work of art. This 4 hour workshop will give you plenty of time to explore, create, and complete a comprehensive series of abstract collages to take home and enjoy. Shug will guide you, step by step, through this journey as we dig in and make A LOT of brand new abstract art.
Aprons, gloves, and all materials/tools/supplies will be provided.
Each attendee will take home completed collages (measuring 18x24") along with the know-how and inspiration to continue making on their own.
About the Instructor:
S. Lee Robinson is a Detroit-based abstract and surrealist painter with over 35 years of studio practice. She holds a BFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and an Art Therapy Practitioner certificate, and currently serves as the 2026 Artist in Residence at The Village Club in Bloomfield Hills through the Women of Impact Residency Program. She teaches abstract and process-based painting at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, and her work has been exhibited internationally and featured in Architectural Digest and California Homes. She teaches the way she paints — intuitively, generously, and with a deep belief that every hand in the room is capable of something honest on the canvas.
