Dreaming of creating something in clay? Just feel like chilling in the studio and getting your hands dirty? This is the workshop for you...
You'll start with an idea (or not), a glob of clay, some hand tools, and over the next few hours, you'll be making magic with Mitch! Whether you want to create something functional or sculptural, this is a safe space for magical thinking, mindless tinkering, and learning new skills. Make yourself that perfect mug! Build a holder for a tool that only you use! Bring that object d'art to life! Make your clay dreams become reality!
Mitch will guide you through the process of hand-building, slab-rolling, wedging, sculpting, under-glazing, and preparing a piece for the kiln. If he feels that your vision requires more time, tools, or attention, he may recommend a follow-up visit.
All work completed in the workshop will be ready in 2-3 weeks, after kiln firing. We will call/email to let you know when your projects are ready for pick up. POST is also happy to ship.
About the Instructor:
Mitch Segall is a native Michigander, a proud MSU alum, and the founder of Central Ceramics Co. He has been working with clay for nearly 20 years and teaching for over 10 years. Mitch has apprenticed in a number of pottery studios and is the manager of Pewabic Pottery’s gallery shop. He loves exploring shape, texture, and color, and stretching those elements within the limitations of clay. Mitch’s current body of work reflects the aesthetics and inspirations discovered during his time living in Central America.
