Garment Sewing Workshop: Elemental Quilt Coat

*This is a Beginner Level workshop - this means that you don't need to know much about sewing but you must know how to thread a machine and wind a bobbin. If you are a total newbie and unsure how to use a sewing machine, you may want to start with our Sewing Machine Essentials workshop.
Spend the day in the POST Sewing Classroom with Liz, Queen of Quilts!
Quilt coats are everywhere these days and you might be wondering: can I make my own quilt coat, especially if I’ve never sewn my own clothing before? Yes you can!
This class is designed for clothing newbies who have basic sewing skills under their belts, but want to start branching out. You’ll get an in-depth introduction into quilt coats and quilt coat patterns, as well as details about sizing, coat closures, finishing techniques and more. Then you’ll have an in-person sewing class where Liz teaches you all the techniques you’ll need to sew your first quilt coat!
We'll be using the Elemental Coat pattern, designed by Teresa Coates. The Elemental Coat is a loose-fitting, slightly A-line quilt coat with options! Choose from the full-length, hip-length, and cropped length, with a hood or collar, as well as 3/4 or full-length sleeves. Sizing ranges from XS to 2X. Everyone will receive a pattern to take home.
Students must bring:
- A quilt or quilted coverlet measuring 60” x 70” or larger
- Bias Tape, 9-10 yards (this will go around the edges of your quilt coat, so choose something that goes with your quilt!)
POST will provide a variety of bias tape, thread, and tools. If you have your own preferred notions and tools please bring them!
Bring your sewing machine if you wish to learn on your own equipment or you may borrow a studio machine. Please select your preference when you checkout.

Liz LePage is a lifelong quilter and educator with a passion for getting people excited about sewing. As a quilt pattern designer, she loves combining simple sewing techniques with in-depth instructions to make sewing accessible to any level of sewist!
