Looking to play with clay while you create a cute and functional dish? This is the workshop for you! Create your own whimsical piece of pottery to use as an incense burner, candle holder, or jewelry tray. Barb will guide you through the project - you just need to bring your imagination!
Everyone will create a small dish (measuring approximately 4-8") from rolled slab clay. Cute little greenware critters such as birds, cats, turtles, and more may be added to create your own magical menagerie.
During this beginner-friendly workshop, students will learn some foundational ceramic basics including:
Once the glaze is set, your pieces will be loaded into the kiln to be fired. All work will be ready for pick up 1-2 weeks after class when the kiln firing is complete. We will call/email to let you know when things are ready for pick up. POST can also ship your project if desired. Please inquire about shipping when you come to class.
About the Instructor:
Barb Gervais is an expressive and somewhat experimental ceramic artist based in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. Barb’s love for clay includes designing whimsical ceramics utilizing lots of color and eye-catching additions to her pieces. She specializes in handbuilding both functional and sculptural pieces. What began as a hobby in the education studio at Pewabic Pottery has become a full time pursuit of creative studio time, vending her wares at art fairs, and now teaching workshops at POST.
