Ceramic Paw Print Tiles with Mitch Segall

It's no secret—we love our dogs here at POST! Now you can join us by making a lasting impression of your pup's paw. Get ready for cuteness overload.

Each appointment will last around 15 minutes. We book sessions throughout the day so that the entire shop and studio is not overrun with pups all at once!

We’ll have everything ready to get a great print in fresh, very soft clay. The ceramic tiles will be finished and bisque fired. We’ll then paint the paw prints in a color of your choice with the name of your pet, before glazing and second firing.

Once your glaze is set, your piece will be loaded into the kiln to be fired. All work will be ready for pick up 1-2 weeks after class when the kiln firing is complete. We will call/email to let you know when things are ready.

About the Instructor:

Mitch Segall is a native Michigander, a proud MSU alum, and the founder of Central Ceramics Co. He has been working with clay for nearly 20 years and teaching for over 10 years. Mitch has apprenticed in a number of pottery studios and is the manager of Pewabic Pottery’s gallery shop. He loves exploring shape, texture, and color, and stretching those elements within the limitations of clay. Mitch’s current body of work reflects the aesthetics and inspirations discovered during his time living in Central America.

Sewing Machine Essentials Workshop: Drawstring Bags for Beginners

Learn your way around a sewing machine while you unleash your inner designer. Whether you need a project pouch for all those craft supplies, a travel bag to add to your luggage, or an upgrade for your sack lunch, why not make it all your own? Craft a very useful bag while you become best buds with your sewing machine!

We'll have a variety of fabrics to choose from, ranging in colors, patterns and texture. Students will also have access to a large stash of ribbon, rope, cords, and toggles to finish off their bags.

Please bring your own sewing machine if you wish to learn on your own equipment or borrow a studio machine. Please select your preference when you checkout.

Macrame + Reclaimed Wood Hanging Shelf Workshop

Learn various macrame techniques to create a functional and very beautiful craft. Using various knots and twists, students will turn a wooden board into a decorative hanging shelf. We'll provide sturdy macrame rope in a wide array of colors. 

Select a unique piece of reclaimed wood from the Mutual Adoration wood shop to complete your project. The boards have been sanded, stained, and finished specifically for the macrame hangers. Decorative and utilitarian! 

Everyone will take home a handcrafted wood + macrame shelf, ready to hang!

Two Day Ceramics Workshop: Botanical Nesting Plates

Designed for those who love to get their hands dirty and make unique home accents from scratch! Local artist, Mitch Segall will guide you through the making of a gorgeous, custom set of floral nesting plates.

During this two-part 6 hour workshop, you’ll learn all about the slab building technique. You’ll also learn how to effectively imprint clay to create texture using found objects. By the end of class, you’ll understand proper drying techniques for creating tiles, plates, and other flat work in porcelain.

All supplies and materials will be provided. If you wish, we invite you to bring in your own foraged materials to imprint into your final piece. Think of thick stems and florals with a lot of texture!

Everyone will take home a series of 3 nesting plates measuring roughly 6”, 8”, and 10” overall. 

What activities will you experience?

• Wedging clay
• Pounding, stretching, smoothing, and rolling a clay slab
• Imprinting clay with found objects
• Techniques for cutting shapes out of clay slab
• Pinching and finishing techniques
• Drying techniques
• Applying detail and color
• Underglaze & Glaze techniques

Drop-In Workshop: Resin Jewelry 

Here's your chance to dip your toes in the sparkly waters of resin and jewelry making! We'll guide you through the ins and outs of designing, creating, and assembling with an assortment of decorative materials at your disposal to embed into a resin pendant or earrings. Think dried flowers, beads, glitter, and small decorative items. 

Choose to create a unique pendant on a chain or a pair of earrings! All supplies will be  provided included the resin materials and jewelry tools, findings, and gift boxes.

This drop-in project does not have a specific start and stop time. Just drop-in anytime during the workshop. Please note that most folks will need 20-30 minutes to complete this project so please plan accordingly.

About the Instructor:

Trice Clark is a mom, maker, and all-around DIY enthusiast. As a self-taught artist she has dabbled in different mediums from woodworking to welding. Using these skills Clark has built activations for local Detroit music festivals, parties, and brand events. Prior to the pandemic her do it yourself workshop, Designer Hack, guided attendees through recreating high-end trends in accessories and home decor for a fraction of the cost. She began making jewelry in 5th grade and exhibited her work in Michigan Fashion Week, Fashion Massacre, and during Detroit’s Month of Design. Whether its hosting classes or creating installations Trice Clark always sets out to make enjoying art an interactive experience.

Slings, Fanny Packs, Bum Bags, Belt Bags, whatever you call them, these crossbody carry-alls are always in fashion for good reason! Endlessly versatile and adjustable, these bags can be worn so many ways and made in so many fabrics. We have perfected a super pattern that is easy to learn and features a lined interior, secure zipper closure, inner pocket, and an adjustable strap.

* No garment sewing experience necessary, however you should know your way around a sewing machine. This a great class for students who have taken our Sewing Machine Essentials workshop or have some (even minimal) experience sewing on a machine.

We'll have a variety of fabrics, straps, and zippers for you to choose from. We have a wide array of colors, patterns, and textures for the bag's exterior and interior. You are also welcome to bring your own fabric.

Woodworking Workshop: Reclaimed Wood Assemblage Wall Hanging

Join us for a fun session of creating art pieces using reclaimed wood. Get a peek at our wood shop, learn how to use hand tools, and experience the behind-the-scenes world of working with locally sourced reclaimed wood while building your own design. 

During this make + take workshop, we will teach you how to construct a framed assemblage using various types, colors, and configurations of wood. This project is perfect for experimentation or you may design a piece to fit your color scheme at home. We’ll be hands-on all afternoon - painting, staining, cutting, gluing, nailing, and assembling. No woodworking experience is needed!

Each student will create their own unique piece with pattern, color, and texture. Mutual Adoration will provide all materials needed, including frames, and hanging hardware for each finished piece. 

• Aprons will be provided, but please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little bit dirty. Stain, paint, and finishing oils will stain your clothing!

• All students must wear closed toe shoes for this workshop.

About the instructors:

Wayne Maki is a woodworker, maker, and entrepreneur. As co-owner of Mutual Adoration and POST, he builds frames, housewares, and large furniture pieces, mostly using reclaimed wood.

HAPA ZOME: Botanical Eco Printing

Discover the joy of eco-printing using nothing but fresh flowers, plants, and a little elbow grease to print directly onto fabric. 

In this 2 hour rendezvous with nature, we'll experiment with accessible natural dye techniques that can be used to create colorfast, eco-chic clothing and artwork at home. Work with fresh blooms and foliage, harnessing their capricious charm to create rich textures that bring the vibrancy of nature into your life, one hue at a time.

100% cotton bandanas, all tools, a variety of botanicals, and all supplies will be provided. 

We also welcome and encourage you to bring flowers of your own to add to the experimental process! 

Everyone will take home a naturally printed cotton bandana, and the know-how to recreate the process at home.

Ceramic Workshop: Handbuilding Terracotta Planters with Rachel Gervais

Say goodbye to those run-of-the-mill, assembly line planters and say hello to a world of creativity with clay! Local pottery whiz, Rachel Gervais, invites you to get your hands dirty with terracotta clay.

This workshop is all about taking baby steps into the world of ceramics. We'll guide you on how to construct clay like a pro, ensuring your masterpiece is as sturdy as it is stylish. From imprinting textures to adding shapes, we're all about letting your creativity run wild. When the dust (or rather, clay) settles, you'll be the proud parent of a planter, complete with a tailor-made tray. Now, how's that for a clay date?

Your bespoke planter will be ready for collection after its bisque firing glow-up in our kiln. We will call/email when the projects are ready for pick up (1-2 weeks after class)

Dive into the world of art therapy with multi-media artist, Shug aka Sheri Lee Robinson. Take a journey into the compelling art-making technique known as Neurographic Art for an inspiring afternoon in the POST studio!

Neurographic Art is an accessible and rewarding form of art-making that can nurture creativity, mindfulness, and emotional well-being in students of all ages and abilities. By encouraging free expression, eliminating the fear of mistakes, and tapping into the power of the right brain, neurographic art empowers the exploration of artistic potential and self-discovery.  This technique is a structured yet free-flowing method of art-making that centers on creating organic, neuron-like lines and shapes that can be colored in with paint, pencils or markers to create a soothing and meaningful abstract composition. Relaxing, easy and fun for all.

Aprons, gloves, and all materials/tools/supplies will be provided.

Each attendee will take home at least one completed work of art, along with the know-how and inspiration to continue making on their own.

Intro to Garment Sewing Workshop: Wrap Skirts

Spend some time in the POST studio as you sew your very own slow fashion staple from scratch! We will guide you through the ins and outs of clothing creation as we create custom-made wrap skirts together. We have developed this pattern to be an excellent lesson in garment making.

A complete beginner can use this pattern to make their very first garment AND a seasoned sewist can whip it up quickly and have a great time in the process. This pattern can be used again and again with various fabrics and made in any length you like, making it a wonderful year-round wardrobe staple.

Skirt features:

• fully personalized sizing
• customize length includes mini, midi, maxi
• two in-seam pockets
• wrap-around style with fabric belt tie

By the end of the three sessions, each students will take home their completed skirt, their customized pattern, and an instructional zine to help with sewing more at home.

If you’ve never used a sewing machine or simply need a refresher, this class will build your sewing confidence!

Our Sewing Machine Essentials workshop will introduce you to the basics of using a sewing machine including threading the machine, creating a bobbin, stitch selections,  and sewing seams. Your new knowledge will be put to practice with a simple envelope pillow cover that you will complete in this class.

All tools, materials, and supplies will be provided in class.

Please bring your own sewing machine if you wish to learn on your own equipment or you may borrow a studio machine. Please select your preference when you checkout.

Basketry Workshop: Classic Potluck Baskets

This class is perfect for absolute beginners or anyone wanting to develop their weaving skills. 

Basket weaving is historically a very practical craft along the same traditions as pottery and woodworking. This craft is perfect for modern crafters though. It is functional, beautiful, and sustainable. By utilizing natural materials, you can create lovely pieces to use in a variety of ways around the home. 

This 4 hour intro level class will focus on a classic basket perfectly sized to fit a casserole dish (not included). Take along to your next potluck or family gathering! When not serving food, use the basket to display collected treasures, dried botanicals, or pinecones.

Your finished basket will measure approximately 12x12x4 inches plus the handle.

All materials and tools are provided.

About the Instructor:

Deb VanderLinde is a lifelong basket weaver and teacher. She has three published basket pattern books (The Basketmak’r) and has also published a pattern magazine (Just Patterns Magazine in the 1990s). As a professional music educator now in retirement, Deb loves teaching basket classes again and supporting people as they learn a new craft. 

Tapestry Weaving Workshop: Beginners Weaving with Julia Targus of Electric Pink Crafts

You will receive all the supplies needed to create your very own piece of fiber art framed in a handmade reclaimed wood frame created right here in the Mutual Adoration wood shop. We will go over how to continue this craft at home in your own creative way.

No experience needed, just a positive attitude and an excitement for yarn and design. Includes all materials and tools needed for project.

About the Instructor:

Julia Targus is the face behind Electric Pink Arts and Crafts. With a BFA in Fiber Arts from Wayne State University, Julia has used her education to fuel her love for textiles. She has been working with POST to teach tapestry weaving since the spring of 2018 and has thoroughly enjoyed spreading her love for this unique craft.

Ceramics Workshop: Customizing Functional Puff Pipes with Mitch Segall of Central Ceramics Co.

Join us for an adults-only POST-after-dark session! 

Spend a chill evening with friends while you customize your own unique bowl. With a variety of colorful underglaze paints at your fingertips, Mitch will guide you through glazing techniques as you decorate your fully functional puff pipe.

We will have a variety of prepared blank pieces for you to choose from. Please see photos as examples. Please note that shapes and sizes vary, based on available supply.

Whiskey + Watercolors with Salud Detroit and Laicee Thill

This isn't your standard paint & sip party...

This workshop is designed for cocktail enthusiasts who want hands-on experience making delicious drinks. We will focus our attention on how to make a classic whiskey cocktail with a twist, and offer a few extra ingredients to help make your cocktail unique. Students will gain confidence using interesting ingredients and specialty tools. Robyn will teach everyone how to navigate cocktail-making beyond the basic spirit and mixer combinations. 

After mixing up some drinks, Laicee will guide the group through an easy, fun, and fluid watercolor painting inspired by the last days of summer! This painting class is ideal for beginner artists, experienced hobbyists, or someone in between – no painting skills required. Students will paint along in a relaxed environment, learning new techniques for approaching watercolor, while being gently encouraged and sipping their freshly handmade cocktail.

Everyone will take home recipes along with their paintings!

Ceramics Workshop: Bird Baths

Add some whimsy to your garden while giving the birds and bees the most adorable bath in the neighborhood! Join Barb Gervais to create a ceramic hanging bird bath, customized with artful textures, colorful glazes, and tiny hand-painted birds, bees, and other critters. 

During this beginner-friendly workshop, students will learn some foundational ceramic basics including:

• Hand-building from a clay slab
• Cutting, shaping, and pinching using forms & tools
• Carving & marking to create textures
• Slip & score & smoothing techniques
• How to apply underglaze

Each bird bath will then be glazed by Barb and go through two kiln firings ensuring a proper finish. The hanging chain is included and will be attached so it’s ready to hang in your garden! Please note: these pieces will be weather safe for outdoor use, but be sure to bring them inside in the winter.

We will call/email when the projects are ready for pick up (1-2 weeks after class).

About the Instructor:

Barb Gervais is an expressive and somewhat experimental ceramic artist based in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. Barb’s love for clay includes designing whimsical ceramics utilizing lots of color and eye-catching additions to her pieces. She specializes in handbuilding both functional and sculptural pieces. What began as a hobby in the education studio at Pewabic Pottery has become a full time pursuit of creative studio time, vending her wares at art fairs, and now teaching workshops at POST.

Jewelry Workshop: Intro to Polymer Clay

Welcome to Polymer Clay 101! This workshop is the precursor to the wonderful world of clay jewelry making. During this 3 hour class, you’ll learn the fundamental skills for working with polymer clay including shaping, forming, color mixing, and the basic  techniques needed to create jewelry in your own individual style.

Trice will guide you through the process of creating a variety of pieces and teach you her tips & tricks for successful baking. You will also learn finishing techniques for matte and glossy results.

Everyone will take home earrings, bracelet, or necklace fully assembled using jump rings, chains, earring hooks, etc. We'll even have some hardware to create brooches or magnets with your practice pieces!

All materials, tools, and jewelry findings are included.

About the Instructor:

Trice Clark is a mom, maker, and all-around DIY enthusiast. As a self-taught artist she has dabbled in different mediums from woodworking to welding. Using these skills Clark has built activations for local Detroit music festivals, parties, and brand events. Prior to the pandemic her do it yourself workshop, Designer Hack, guided attendees through recreating high-end trends in accessories and home decor for a fraction of the cost. She began making jewelry in 5th grade and exhibited her work in Michigan Fashion Week, Fashion Massacre, and during Detroit’s Month of Design. Whether its hosting classes or creating installations Trice Clark always sets out to make enjoying art an interactive experience.

Get ready for a two-day whirlwind of woodworking glory. This beginner-friendly extravaganza promises to transform you from a novice into a DIY woodworking virtuoso.

All students must wear closed toe shoes for this workshop. Refrain from wearing loose clothing or anything that dangles. Tie up long hair and tuck away your jewelry and headscarves.

Aprons will be provided, but please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little bit dirty. Paint and sealant oils will stain your clothing!

About the instructors:

Wayne Maki is a woodworker, maker, and entrepreneur. As co-owner of Mutual Adoration and POST, he builds frames, housewares, and large furniture pieces, mostly using reclaimed wood.

Two Day Ceramics Workshop: Match Striker Set

Saturday October 4th from 10am to 2pm

In this workshop, you will create a match striker set that includes two vessels, a tray, and a box of strike anywhere matches. Rachel will guide everyone through variety of hand-building and decorating techniques to create your customized set. 

On day 1, you will be constructing 2 small vessels that will hold used and unused matches, along with a tray for the vessels to sit on. Rachel will demonstrate slab building techniques to create the vessels and tray. Once constructed, she will demonstrate different additive and subtractive techniques to add decorations to your match striker set. 

On day 2, your match striker set will be ready to decorate with a variety of colored underglaze paints. Once decorated, you will apply a clear glaze to each piece.

Once your glaze is set, your pieces will be loaded into the kiln to be fired. All work will be ready for pick up 1-2 weeks after class when the kiln firing is complete. We will call/email to let you know when things are ready.

About the Instructor:

Rachel Gervais is an artist + educator based in Hamtramck, MI. With a BFA in Ceramics from CCS, Rachel has used her education to fuel her love for craft and share those skills with all ages. She loves exploring the quality of texture and the intimate relationship of holding a cup, bowl, or small vase.

Box Tops - Intro to Garment Sewing Workshop

Spend the day in the POST studio as you sew your very own slow fashion staple from scratch!

We will guide you through the ins and outs of clothing creation as we navigate All Well Studio’s Sleeveless Box Top Pattern together. This easy-wearing boxy top is not just an ideal choice for sun-soaked days or savvy layering, it's also a remarkable lesson in garment making.

The All Well Studio Box Top pattern was designed so a complete beginner can use it to make their very first garment AND a seasoned sewist can whip it up quick and have a great time in the process. This pattern is for everyone!

We'll have a variety of fabrics for you to choose from, ranging in colors, patterns and texture. If you'd like to bring your own fabric, you will need 2 yards of a light to mid weight fabric (up to 5ish oz or 175gsm) that is 45"-60"wide. Avoid anything that is slippery (like satin or silk) or stretchy (like jersey).

Students will take home a Sleeveless Box Top, the full set of All Well Studio pattern files and instructions (which comes with 4 variations), and All Well Studio’s complete Hacking Guide with 14 hacking ideas and essential techniques. 

Please bring your own sewing machine if you wish to learn on your own equipment or borrow a studio machine. Please select your preference when you checkout.

* No garment sewing experience necessary, however you should know your way around a sewing machine. This a great class for students who have taken our Sewing Machine Essentials workshop or have some (even minimal) experience sewing on a machine.

Love making your own dressings and marinades but sick of chopping that sticky garlic and those finicky herbs? Grater bowls come equipped with a garlic grater, herb stripper, and a convenient spout. Local artist and pottery maverick, Mitch Segall offers a unique opportunity to learn ceramic bowl crafting with some special tools built in that’ll make your time in the kitchen fun and easy. 

During this two-part workshop, you’ll learn all about handbuilding and glazing stoneware. By the end of class, you’ll understand how to properly coil build with clay so that the resulting piece is structurally sound. You'll also learn how to imprint textures and add shapes to create something entirely unique.

When you return for the second date, you'll learn how to apply glaze to your bisque fired bowl using a variety of glazing techniques. 

What activities will you experience?

• Wedging clay
• Rolling clay into coils
• Building coils into a bowl form
• Smoothing and blending techniques
• Scoring and slipping to attach pieces
• Paddling technique
• Drying techniques
• Applying detail and color

If you have taken our Framed Weaving Workshop for Beginner's or have ever woven a project using a kit, consider this class the next level. We'll be taking a deep dive into design, shape, and mastering various techniques using tabletop tapestry looms.

Building on the skills covered in the Beginner Frame Weaving class, we'll spend time planning discussing design fundamentals while planning our tapestry projects. With a focal point and clear design sketched out, you'll explore different stitch patterns like a twill or basket weave. This longer workshop allows for more exploration by building layers of texture with soumak, rya knots, or interlocking shapes. 

By the end of the second session, you will learn how to attach a dowel rod and finish your piece off of the loom. 

All supplies and tools will be provided including:

• A variety of yarn and roving
• Cotton, wool, and acrylic fibers
• Wooden dowel rods and hanging sticks from our on-site wood shop

Julia Targus is the face behind Electric Pink Arts and Crafts. With a BFA in Fiber Arts from Wayne State University, Julia has used her education to fuel her love for textiles. Automatic Art Making with Shug (Sheri Lee Robinson)

Dive into the world of free-form art making with multi-media artist, Shug aka Sheri Lee Robinson.

In this hands-on, action-packed workshop you will learn about and practice Automatic Art Making. This art form involves creating art without conscious thought. The goal is to access the subconscious mind and produce images that are ambiguous and open to interpretation. We will be looking to the Surrealists and others for some inspiration via a short slideshow presentation. Don’t miss out on this chance for a super fun and productive Summer workshop where you will create and take home a TON of new art! 

Aprons, gloves, and all materials/tools/supplies will be provided.

Each attendee will take home many works of art, along with the know-how and inspiration to continue making on their own.

Designed for those who love to get their hands dirty and make unique home accents from scratch! Local artist, Mitch Segall will guide you through the making of a gorgeous, custom set of floral nesting plates.

During this two-part 6 hour workshop, you’ll learn all about the slab building technique. You’ll also learn how to effectively imprint clay to create texture using found objects. By the end of class, you’ll understand proper drying techniques for creating tiles, plates, and other flat work in porcelain.

All supplies and materials will be provided. If you wish, we invite you to bring in your own foraged materials to imprint into your final piece. Think of thick stems and florals with a lot of texture!

Everyone will take home a series of 3 nesting plates measuring roughly 6”, 8”, and 10” overall. 

What activities will you experience?

• Wedging clay
• Pounding, stretching, smoothing, and rolling a clay slab
• Imprinting clay with found objects
• Techniques for cutting shapes out of clay slab
• Pinching and finishing techniques
• Drying techniques

Screen Printing Workshop: Pet Portraits with Melissa Dettloff

Your pet deserves 15 minutes of fame! And a custom-made portrait!
Learn the basics of screen printing and create a hand illustrated portrait of your favorite furry friend. We'll be using an accessible, non-darkroom method that can easily be replicated at home. Each participant will create an edition of 6 handmade, 8"x10" custom portraits of their own pet using drawing templates and Melissa’s guidance.

Mutual Adoration frames will be available in the shop at a 20% discount for workshop attendees.

We’ll email all registrants with instructions for how to select and send your pet’s photo before class. Nothing fancy needed - high resolution cell phone photos will work fine on newer phone models.

Celebrate the holidays while adding a colorful chandelier of paper flowers, string, and other ephemera  to your home by making a traditional Polish Pajaki!

Pronounced Pah-yonk-ee, this traditional craft is created by the women of Poland at times of celebration - weddings, holidays, christenings, or springtime.

We’ll work with metal hoops, paper straws, twine, paper flowers, pom poms, hand marbled wooden beads, and much more to create a one-of-a-kind decorative ‘chandelier’ that roughly measures 12” round x 24” long. These are traditionally hung around holidays as a decoration for the home, but can also just be hung from the ceiling year around.

Julie Broekman (formerly Rudziensky) was born and raised in Michigan. She is an automotive color and material designer by day and a jewelry designer/maker by night. It's no secret—we love our dogs here at POST! Now you can join us by making a lasting impression of your pup's paw. Get ready for cuteness overload.

Each appointment will last around 15 minutes. We book sessions throughout the day so that the entire shop and studio is not overrun with pups all at once!

We’ll have everything ready to get a great print in fresh, very soft clay. The ceramic tiles will be finished and bisque fired. We’ll then paint the paw prints in a color of your choice with the name of your pet, before glazing and second firing.

Once your glaze is set, your piece will be loaded into the kiln to be fired. All work will be ready for pick up 1-2 weeks after class when the kiln firing is complete. We will call/email to let you know when things are ready.

Spend a chill evening with friends while you customize your own unique bowl. With a variety of colorful underglaze paints at your fingertips, Mitch will guide you through glazing techniques as you decorate your fully functional puff pipe.

We will have a variety of prepared blank pieces for you to choose from. Please see photos as examples. Please note that shapes and sizes vary, based on available supply.

Once your glaze is set, your pipe will be loaded into the kiln to be fired. All pipes will be ready for pick up 1-2 weeks after class when the kiln firing is complete. We will call and/or email everyone when the projects are ready for pick up.

Dive into the world of abstract collage with multi-media artist, Shug aka Sheri Lee Robinson.

This intensive workshop will have you elbows-deep in various media as you create bold and exciting new work.  Mixed Media Abstract Collage is a fun and liberating art-making process  that will teach how to create something new with the intention of ripping it up in order to give birth to a brand new work of art. This 4 hour workshop will give you plenty of time to explore, create, and complete a comprehensive series of abstract collages to take home and enjoy. Shug will guide you, step by step, through this journey as we dig in and make A LOT of brand new abstract art. 

Aprons, gloves, and all materials/tools/supplies will be provided.

Each attendee will take home completed collages (measuring 18x24") along with the know-how and inspiration to continue making on their own.

Enjoy some time with your POST pals while we create unique compositions with the natural beauty of locally grown flowers. 

This 2 hour make + take workshop is all about getting creative as you create a botanical collage that reflects your style. We will have a variety of unique dried flowers, ferns, leaves in a wide array of color schemes to choose from. 

Everyone will take home their unique piece, framed in a Mutual Adoration wood frame. Glass and mating is included.

Choose from a selection of handcrafted 11x14" reclaimed wood frames. We'll have a variety of colors, wood stains, and frame widths available to choose from. Please send a note at least one week in advance if you have any special requests.

We welcome and encourage you to bring your own pressed flowers if you feel so inclined.

Basketry Workshop: Sleigh Baskets

Basket weaving is historically a very practical craft along the same traditions as pottery and woodworking. This craft is perfect for modern crafters though. It is functional, beautiful, and sustainable. By utilizing natural materials, you can create lovely pieces to use in a variety of ways around the home. 

This 4+ hour intro level class will focus on a sleigh basket perfectly designed to spruce up your holiday decor. Use the basket to display holiday ornaments, scented pine cones, little gifts, or dolls. This would make a very special gift!

The basket features a handcrafted oak base. Some color choices will be offered but note that color options may vary. The basket measures approximately 15” Long x 9” Wide x 6” Deep. Sleigh base is 20” Long.

All materials and tools are provided.

She has three published basket pattern books (The Basketmak’r) and has also published a pattern magazine (Just Patterns Magazine in the 1990s). As a professional music educator now in retirement, Deb loves teaching basket classes again and supporting people as they learn a new craft. 

Sewing Machine Essentials Workshop: Throw Pillows for Beginners

If you’ve never used a sewing machine or simply need a refresher, this class will build your sewing confidence!

Our Sewing Machine Essentials workshop will introduce you to the basics of using a sewing machine including threading the machine, creating a bobbin, stitch selections,  and sewing seams. Your new knowledge will be put to practice with a simple envelope pillow cover that you will complete in this class.

All tools, materials, and supplies will be provided in class.

Please bring your own sewing machine if you wish to learn on your own equipment or you may borrow a studio machine. Please select your preference when you checkout.

About the Instructor:

Donna Killeen is the owner and creator of Detroit Apron Company. She enjoys working with natural linen and cotton fabrics to create aprons, hand towels, and market bags. Donna has been teaching at POST since 2018!

Collage Workshop with Julie from Fate & Coincidence

Learn the art of collage while working on a unique composition with a color pro! We will talk about the basics of composition, subject, matter, and meaning with your collage. Each student will be provided with all the supplies to complete their project - including a pack of curated new and vintage paper pieces, stickers, and more.

Each attendee will take home one or two completed collages along with the know-how and inspiration to continue making on their own.

About the Instructor:

Julie Broekman (formerly Rudziensky) was born and raised in Michigan. She is an automotive color and material designer by day and a jewelry designer/maker by night. Her jewelry line, Fate & Coincidence, is a mix of boho-modern style that is sold in over 50 stores around the country. She is a lover of wildlife, nature, and color.

Intuitive Self Portraits with Shug (Sheri Lee Robinson)

Let’s take a look…at ourselves! Artists throughout the centuries have used self-portraits as a means of self-exploration, self-expression, and self-promotion. These artworks often serve as a visual autobiography, capturing the person at a particular moment in time and revealing something about their personality, emotions, and creative process.

Self-portraits can take on various styles and approaches, depending on your intentions and techniques. In this workshop, we will be focusing on the abstract, gestural, loose, intuitive, and surrealist side of capturing our likenesses (or un-likenesses!) Working on canvas and paper, we will employ an array of wet and dry media.

• A brief slideshow presented at the beginning of class will give you some history and insight into the wide world of the self-portrait. 
• All are welcome to attend and no art-making experience is necessary. 
• Aprons, gloves, and all materials/tools/supplies will be provided.
• Each attendee will take home multiple works of art, along with the know-how and inspiration to continue making on their own.

About the Instructor:

Shug (Sheri Lee Robinson) is an accomplished Abstract Art instructor at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center in Birmingham, Michigan and a working fine artist. Her sold out courses have her students glowing with creative flow and leaving with bold new bodies of exciting work Her dedication to her practice and her compelling, surrealist/abstract painting style has attracted admirers and collectors from all over the world.
