Two Day Ceramics Workshop: Match Striker Set

In this workshop, you will create a match striker set that includes two vessels, a tray, and a box of strike anywhere matches. Rachel will guide everyone through variety of hand-building and decorating techniques to create your customized set. 

On day 1, you will be constructing 2 small vessels that will hold used and unused matches, along with a tray for the vessels to sit on. Rachel will demonstrate slab building techniques to create the vessels and tray. Once constructed, she will demonstrate different additive and subtractive techniques to add decorations to your match striker set. 

On day 2, your match striker set will be ready to decorate with a variety of colored underglaze paints. Once decorated, you will apply a clear glaze to each piece.

Once your glaze is set, your pieces will be loaded into the kiln to be fired. All work will be ready for pick up 1-2 weeks after class when the kiln firing is complete. We will call/email to let you know when things are ready.

About the Instructor:

Rachel Gervais is an artist + educator based in Hamtramck, MI. With a BFA in Ceramics from CCS, Rachel has used her education to fuel her love for craft and share those skills with all ages. She loves exploring the quality of texture and the intimate relationship of holding a cup, bowl, or small vase.
